명예 센터장 인사말
Welcome to the “Wil van der Aalst Data and Process Science Research Center”. It is a great honor and pleasure to serve as honorary director for this wonderful initiative. We focus on the interplay between data science and process science. Due to incredible progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), we are now able to exploit data in ways never imagined before. However, due to the dynamic nature of processes, mainstream AI and ML approaches cannot be used to analyze and improve operational processes. We need, for example, process mining to serve as a lens for AI and ML by discovering the true fabric of processes and identifying performance and compliance problems. Moreover, techniques from operations research, ranging from simulation to optimization, need to be combined with data-science approaches to actually improve processes in a sustainable manner.
Our center serves as the leading research hub in South Korea connecting data science and process science. We focus on theoretical and applied research and are well-connected with the international research community and Korea’s globally leading companies in manufacturing, electronics, automotive, and telecommunications. This, together with the support of POSTECH, provides a unique ecosystem. Do not hesitate if you would like to collaborate with us to push innovations in data and process science.

Wil van der Aalst Data & Process Science Research Center에 오신 것을 환영합니다.
Wil van der Aalst Data & Process Science Research Center는 프로세스 마이닝(Process Mining) 분야의 창시자이자 세계적인 석학이신 Wil van der Aalst 교수님의 이름을 따서 설립된 연구 센터입니다. 본 센터는 데이터 과학과 프로세스 과학의 융합을 통해, 산업과 학계에서 혁신을 주도하는 연구 허브로 자리매김하고자 합니다.
인공지능(AI)과 머신러닝(ML)의 발전을 활용하여 프로세스의 본질을 탐구하고, 성과와 규정 준수 문제를 식별하며, 데이터 기반의 지속 가능한 프로세스 개선을 실현하는 것이 우리의 핵심 목표입니다. 이를 위해, 프로세스 마이닝을 비롯한 다양한 데이터 분석 기법과 최적화, 시뮬레이션 등의 방법론을 접목하여 실질적인 문제 해결을 도모합니다.
본 센터는 한국을 대표하는 연구 기관으로서, 이론과 실무를 아우르는 연구를 수행하며, 국제 연구 커뮤니티 및 세계적 기업들과 긴밀한 협력을 이어가고 있습니다. 제조, 전자, 자동차, 통신, 금융 등 다양한 산업과의 협업을 통해 혁신을 실현하며, POSTECH의 지원을 바탕으로 독창적인 연구 생태계를 구축하고자 합니다.
마지막으로, 본 센터의 명예 센터장을 맡아주신 Wil van der Aalst 교수님께 깊은 감사를 드립니다. 교수님의 탁월한 연구 업적과 비전은 본 센터의 성장과 발전에 큰 영감을 주고 있으며, 이를 바탕으로 데이터 및 프로세스 과학 분야에서 의미 있는 혁신을 만들어 나가고자 합니다.
